Oudewater has three monumental churches: the Great or St. Michael’s Church, the church of St. Francis and the Old Catholic church. Each of these churches has its own unique architecture and story so closely tied with the history of Oudewater.
The towers of St. Michaels’ and St. Francis’ church can be seen a long way in the distance; St. Francis adorned with a conspicuous green lighted cross.
Services are held every Sunday in each of the two major churches in Oudewater and the faithful are invited by the ringing of the bells. But beyond services, it is certainly worth the trouble to visit the church interiors, for instance during a city walk. The churches are generally open during the summer season. The churches often host events (like concertos), which are announced on the events calendar.
